Ng Family History
The Ng Family originally came from China and settled in San Francisco, California. James Ng owned a restaurant. He met and married Alice Lee. Alice and James went back to the ancestral home in a small village near the city of Canton. They had three children: Grace and Lucy before World War II, and Sammy in 1948. After the Communist takeover of the China, the family fled to Macau, a Portugese colony on the coast of China. Alice Ng returned to San Francisco where she worked to raise funds to bring her children to the United States. Sammy came to California at the age of 11.

Doerr Family History
The Doerr Family originally came over to the United States from Germany. They settled around South St. Louis, Missouri which was the German area in and around the city. The Doerr's were truck farmers making a living raising vegetables and selling them at the outdoor Sulard's Market in the city.
William Doerr, Jr. is the oldest son of William Doerr. He served in World War II as a top turret gunner and crew chief on a B-17 bomber. In 1946, he married Eileen Jost who was the daughter of Joseph Jost and Crescentia Jost (nee Blase). On the GI Bill, he was able to finish high school. He was employed by Western Electric and Southwestern Bell which was a part of American Telephone and Telegraph (AT&T). Bill and Eileen have seven children from oldest to youngest: Dela, William (Bill) III, Dale, Joyce, Sandra, Gary, and Barbara.

Ng/Doerr Family History
On September 10, 1977, Sammy Ng married Dela Doerr at St. Charles Borremeo Catholic Church in Arlington, Virginia. Sammy had come to the Washington, D. C. area to take a job with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 1976. Dela had come to the Washington area in 1969 for a job with the Navy's David Taylor Model Basin but had subsequently taken a job at EPA. The couple met through Folk Dancing. Sammy and Dela have three children: Karen, Stephen, and Jason.
